Pet Smile Month - September 2008 | ||||||||||||||||
What can you do? Prevention is better than cure! For puppy's - Make sure your puppy is happy to have their teeth and mouth examined by starting this off very gently when they're small, and keeping up the habit. Simply say "let's see your teeth" and have a very quick look and give them a wee treat, then gradually build up the length of time you look for one treat. Good teeth follow a healthy diet - no sugars, colourings, additives etc - have a look here for some ideas on healthy dog food. If your puppy has difficulty with letting them examine your mouth, then please get them along to a good puppy class near you or have a 1-1 puppy behaviour and training session with a local pet behaviour trainer. Or, have a look here for information on how to help to teach your puppy to stop biting you. For your adult dog, have a look at the Canine Therapy Centre healthy teeth sheet here. And have a look at the Pet Smile Month web site here which has lots of useful information and also details about vets in your area taking part in Pet Smile Month. |
